The Financial Management Academy (FIMA), the training arm of the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (OCAG) of Bangladesh has finally moved into its own building. Finance Minsiter Abul Maal A. Muhith MP inaugurated the newly built Financial Management Academy (FIMA) Bhaban at Lalasarai, Mirpur on March 30, 2010. The new training complex of OCAG with its residential and other modern facilities will enable the office to impart better training to the officers of the department. A lot of dignitaries were present at the inauguration of FIMA Bhaban including Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh Ahmed Ataul Hakeem and Finance Secretary Dr. Mohammad Tareque, both of whom were guests of honor.
The newly built FIMA complex will have state of the art IT facilities, modern classrooms, a rich library and recreational facilities for trainees. FIMA will now be able to organize residential training as there are full residential facilities including dormitories and dinning arrangements.
In their speeches, invited dignitaries have all expressed high hopes on FIMAs performance and the impact on Audit. In his speech, Finance Minister Abul Maal A. Muhith MP underscored the need of IT based modern training for building digital Bangladesh. He emphasized the need for change of attitudes and modernization of the present system of auditing for ensuring transparency and accountability in the financial management of the government to establish good governance. CAG Ahmed Ataul Hakeem stressed the importance of creation of professional and skilled manpower through training to ensure optimum utilization of public resources. The CAG highlighted the effective role audit plays in saving public money and preventing corruption. Finance Secretary Dr Mohammed Tareque said that there is no alternative to training for achieving knowledge, experience and skills.
The Director General of FIMA Md. Abul Kashem expressed his deep gratitude to all concerned who were involved in the construction of FIMA Bhaban. He agreed that with the newly built facilities, FIMA now has a wide mandate to impart training on various aspects of public financial management and will be able to widen its potential in capacity building of the OCAG staff as well as officers across the government.
Chairman and Members of Public Accounts Committee, ex advisors of Care Taker Government, ex CAGs and Secretaries were present in the occasion.
